What is your opinion about the ongoing drama about Nalini’s release?
Do you think she should be released?
I feel the whole purpose of jail & punishment is to reform a person and NOT a state-sponsored revenge. Rajiv’s murder is terrible but so are the Kovai blasts. If the terrorists responsible for Kovai blasts can be released after 10 years why not Nalini? Knowing well how carefully the LTTE plans a secret operation, Nalini definitely may not be a part of conspiracy, but might have got some clue at the end just before the incident. In her youthful enthusiasm at that time, she even might have been thrilled to be part of the gang. Benefit of doubt could have been given to her.
The tragedy is the whole episode is based on assumptions. Congressmen think that Sonia will be happy if they oppose the release. Karunanidhi is reluctant to order release since he is scared of Congress withdrawing their support ( same happened when Jain (?) commission gave the report and he lost the CM chair.

இந்த விவகாரம் எனக்கும் மிகுந்த சங்கடத்தை அளிப்பதாகவே உள்ளது. மலையாளத்தில் சொல்வார்கள், ‘பசுவும் செத்தது மோரில் புளிப்பும் இல்லாமலாயிற்று’ என்று. எல்லாமே ஒரு வரலாறாக, கசப்பான நினைவுகளாக மாறி மறைந்துவிட்டிருக்கின்றன. இன்றும் நளினி போன்ற ஒரு சந்தர்ப்பசூழலின் இரையை சிறையில் இட்டிருப்பதென்பது அறமற்ற செயல் என்றே படுகிறது. அவரது குற்றத்துக்கான தண்டனையை அவர் அனுபவித்து விட்டிருக்கிறார். அவரது வாழ்க்கை கிட்டத்தட்ட முடிவுக்கு வந்து விட்டது. அவரையும் பிற ராஜீவ் கொலைக்குற்றச்சாட்டுக் கைதிகளையும் விடுதலை செய்வதே இந்தியா தன் முகமாக முன்வைக்கும் ஜனநாயகத்துக்கும் தார்மீகத்துக்கும் உகந்ததாக இருக்கும்.
நீங்கள் சொல்வதுபோல ஓர் அரசு பழிவாங்கும் நோக்குடன் நடந்துகொள்வதென்பது எவ்வகையிலும் முறையானதல்ல. நளினி குற்றங்களுக்காக வருந்தவில்லை என்று நீதி மன்றம் சொல்லியிருக்கிறது. அது அபத்தமான வாதம் என்று நினைக்கிறேன். அரசியல்கைதிகள் பொதுவாக அப்படி வருந்துவதில்லை -வருந்தினாலும் சொல்வதில்லை. அவர்கள் எவற்றுக்காக வாழ்ந்தார்களோ அவற்றை நிராகரிப்பதற்குச் சமம் அல்லவா அது?
சென்றகாலங்களில் இங்கே பெரிய குற்றங்களைச் செய்த நக்ஸலைட்டுகள் விடுதலை செய்யப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் இன்றும் தங்கள் வாழ்நாள் சாதனையாக அக்குற்றங்களைச் சொல்லிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். அது அப்படித்தான் என்றுதான் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளவேண்டும். வரலாற்றின் காலகட்டம் முடிந்தபின்பு அதை முன்னெடுத்துச் செல்லலாகாது.
நளினி விடுதலையின் சிக்கலே அதற்கான சிபாரிசைச் செய்வதற்கு, அந்தப் பொறுப்பை ஏற்றுக்கொள்வதற்கு, அரசியல் துணிச்சல் எவருக்கும் இல்லை என்பதுதான் என்று படுகிறது
